Spooky Storm Blows Through Belmar

If you live in Belmar long enough, you're bound to see some unusual weather events. And the thunder storm that blew through town on Friday evening was certainly one of them. At first, the most striking feature was the unusual cloud formations that swirled overhead in advance of the storm. Afterwards, it was the eerie yellow-orange light that illuminated the entire sky with a distinct end-of-the-world kind of glow. In a word, spooky. Special thanks to Emily K. Countdown to the Belmar 5 Mile Run

The clock is ticking down to the start of the 33nd annual Belmar Five Johnny Cobb Memorial Run on Saturday morning, July 11, at 8:30 a.m. More than 3,000 runners are expected to participate in this year's race, which is sponsored by the Goodwill Hose Fire Company. The Belmar 5-miler is the third leg of the Jersey Shore Golden Grand Prix, which also includes the Spring Lake Five, the George Sheehan Classic and the Asbury Park & Pier Village 5K. Long time residents and visitors to Belmar fondly remember Sidoroff's, the popular, but now vacant, hot dog and hamburg stand at the corner of 19th and Ocean Avenues. In its heyday, it featured some of the best hamburgers and hot dogs anywhere, not to mention ice cold Hires Root Beer served in frosted mugs. Cook-out celebrates opening of the Belmar-Taurosa Family Skate Park

More than a hundred residents and skaters turned out on Thursday evening for a cook-out to celebrate the opening of the new Belmar-Taurosa Family Skate Park, and to thank all those who helped make it a reality. Barry and the Penetrators provided great music for the event. (In between sets, they even tried out the new park with their skateboards!)
