Today, Belmar was voted the #1 beach in Central Jersey and the #6 best beach in New Jersey through the Top Ten Beaches Competition, sponsored by New Jersey Tourism, the NJ Sea Grant Consortium, and the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey Coastal Research Center.
Belmar Mayor Matthew Doherty said, “We are excited to be selected the best beach in Central Jersey. We are proud of how we have recovered from Hurricane Sandy, and rebuilt our boardwalk and beach. We look forward to a great 2014 summer season.”
Belmar makes up a stretch of 1.3 miles of beachfront with the pristine conditions, an abundance of activities, and easy beach accessibility. Belmar cleans and grooms the beach every morning, and starting this year, smoking is completely prohibited on the entire beach and boardwalk. We have a stellar team of lifeguards, police, first aid, water rescue and fire department members ready to assist visitors when needed.
“It is great when voters express what we believe. Belmar and its businesses are very visitor friendly. A variety of restaurants, boutique shops and lodging are here to meet your needs. From beautiful sunrises on the beach to awesome sunsets at the Marina we have it all.” Said Tom Volker, Owner of Inn at the Shore.
Belmar’s beaches have more public playgrounds than another other beach in NJ with playgrounds at 3rd, 8th, 12th and 16th Avenue Beaches. Activities for children include boogie boarding, kayaking and surfing. We pride ourselves on the cleanest restrooms on the Jersey Shore. We offer a surf camp at 3rd Avenue where visitors of all ages can take surfing lessons. For active beachgoers who prefer dry land activities, several of our beaches are equipped with poles for volleyball nets; even if you don’t have your own equipment, it’s easy to join a game.
Belmar prides itself on the accessibility of our beach. Every beach entrance is ADA compliant and features Mobi-Mats that provide a hard surface to operate a wheel chair, pair of crutches, or baby stroller. Our boardwalk features a 6 foot center strip for smooth operation of a wheel chair.
Our beach season never ends but our official kick-off starts Memorial Day Weekend on Friday, May 23rd and runs through Monday, September 1st, Labor Day Weekend. We have traditional food and beverage outlets on our boardwalk with plenty of parking available.
When compared to surrounding beach communities’ 2014 prices, our season beach badge is the lowest-priced in the area at $50 and our daily badge is only $7. Children 15 and under are free so a family of 4 can enjoy a day at the beach for just $14.00. Beach admission for first responders and active military is always free. We also partner with NJ Transit to create packages that make family beach visits more affordable for our customers; you can save up to $6.50 when you purchase a daily badge at the same time as a train ticket.
Belmar was also voted one of the top ten Beaches for Ecotourism, # 1 in Central Jersey for Family Vacations and one of the Top Ten for Day Trips. Come visit our beach and learn for yourself why Belmar earns the designation of best beach in Central Jersey.
