Special Improvement District
Mission
The Special Improvement District’s purpose is to spearhead a sustainable revitalization and create profitability of all the commercial zones in Belmar, in strong alliance with it’s civic and community leaders, commercial building owners and retailers.
Objective
The project’s objective is to create an all-inclusive downtown that enhances Belmar’s uniqueness as a Jersey Shore community with a boardwalk oceanfront, a marina at it’s inlet waterway, and an established town center that is within walking distance to it’s shops, restaurants and entertainment.
Goals
1. Physical commercial transformation – resulting in clean, aesthetically charming commercial buildings with curb appeal and landscaping that serve as a market brand, while allowing stores to feature their unique goods and services.
2. Business attraction and retention – helping new and diverse quality businesses join what they view as a solidly established and viable commercial community.
By meeting these goals the SID hopes to return the town of Belmar to one where it’s residents, residents of adjoining towns and the vast number of year-round visitors are drawn to the shops and restaurants on a regular basis. If these goal are met, Belmar will solidify it’s position as a destination where shoppers will rely on the convenience and quality of goods and services sold here and see the commercial area as a vital part of the seashore community.
With this in mind the SID should begin its work with three projects:
THE THREE PROJECTS ARE:
1. VISUSAL / PHYSICAL IMPROVEMENTS
2. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT / RETENTION
3. BOROUGH WIDE MARKETING / BRANDING
These must be worked on in conjunction with the enforcement of established town codes and the cooperation and input of retail and commercial building owners.
