ATTENTION BELMAR WATER RESCUE TEAM MEMBERS:
On July 25, 2008, at 6:30pm, BWRT received a call for a swimmer in distress at the 20th Avenue beach. Team members Gino Scholtz and Mike Tully were the first to arrive on the scene. They rescued a male victim who was nearly unconscious in the water. He was caught in a rip current generated by rough surf. He was unable to move on his own in the water, when the rescuers got to him. They were able to get the victim in and they definitely saved this person’s life. Once on the beach the victim required immediate medical attention and was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center by the Belmar First Aid Squad. Upon his recovery, he visited Lifeguard Headquarters and sent his personnel thanks to all involved.
Congratulations to all for a job well done!
This July was our busiest ever. We responded to 9 calls for water rescues this July. On July 19, we responded to 3 calls for water rescue in one day. We had rough surf for most of July due to tropical storm activity.
