Only Celebrities are stalked - Myth - 4 million people are stalked very year in the United States.

If you ignore stalking it will go away - Myth - Stalkers do not “Just Stop”. Victims must seek help from advocates, Law Enfocment and the courts.

Stalking is creepy but not dangerous - Myth - Stalking is both creepy and dangerous, 3 out of 4 women who were murdered by an intimate partner had previously been stalked by their killer.

Stalking is annoying but not illegal - Myth - In New Jersey is a 4th degree crime unless it is associated with a previous or subsequent offense of stalking in which it becomes a 3rd degree crime punishable up to 5 years in jail. A 4th degree is punishable up to 18 months in jail.

You can’t be stalked by someone you are still dating - Myth - If your boyfriend or girlfriend tracks your every move and in a way that causes you to fear, that is stalking.

Modern surveillance technology is too expensive and confusing for most stalkers to use - Myth – This technology is inexpensive and user friendly to understand and use.

If you confront the stalker, he’ll go away - Myth - Stalkers can be unreasonable and unpredictable. Confronting or trying to reason with a stalker can be dangerous. Call law enforcement.  Get help you cannot do this alone.
