Violence Against Women
For years people including law enforcement officials viewed violence against women as strictly a domestic disturbance issue. Unfortunately the term violence against women includes sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking. Sexual Assault, know as rape in several states, is a crime that is seldom reported for a variety of reasons, from guilt to embarrassment. Most often committed by a assailant whom the victim has know for 30 minutes or longer or a friend or relative who has betrayed the victim’s trust.
Stalking is a crime that does not just happen to celebrities. Many women are stalked by ex partners or those wishing for a relationship and are harassed. Human Trafficking takes mostly women from either foreign countries or here in America and manipulates them into an never ending cycle of abuse to include, drugs and prostitution.
We in the Belmar Police Department find all these crimes and those committed in domestic violence situations intolerable. We are committed in protecting the victims of such crimes and bring the perpetrators to justice. We also hope the following pages provide information to you to help you either protect yourself or a possible victim of these crimes.
