SUBJECT: May 2006 Monthly Highlights

Pursuant to NJSA 40A:14-118, the Chief of Police must at least monthly report the operation of the police force for the proceeding month to the appropriate authority. The below report is submitted concerning police operations during the month of May 2006. From a Department of Public Safety standpoint, I have also included sections concerning first aid, fire department and beach operations.

PRODUCTIVITY:

The Belmar Police Department responded to 1919 calls for service during the month of May 2006. Officers responded to and investigated 29 motor vehicle accidents; issued 115 Borough Ordinance Summonses; issued 1147 Motor Vehicle Summonses; and 57 Arrests were made; 2 of which were for DWI.

CRIME INFORMATION:

During the month of May 2006 we had 10 assaults, 6 cleared; 7 burglaries, 2 cleared; 26 thefts, 8 cleared and 1 motor vehicle theft, cleared. During the month of May 2006 we had 55 adults and 3 juveniles arrested for various violations.

PERSONNEL ISSUES:

During the month of May 2006 there were 5 sick days used by Regular Officers; and 4 sick days used by Dispatchers.

POLICE DEPARTMENT TRAINING:

During the month of April 2006, the following personnel attended the below listed schools/training sessions:

- All Regular and Class II Officers reported for the Spring Firearms Qualifications, as mandated, on May 18, 2006 and May 19, 2006.

- Special Officers reported for Domestic Violence training on May 22, 2006 and for Bloodborne Pathogen and Sexual Harassment training on May 26, 2006.

- Chief Hill attended EOC Management & Operation training on May 8-9, 2006; and Emergency Planning/Rapid Assessment training on May 18-19, 2006.

- Det Sean Pringle attended the NJ Juvenile Officers Association Annual Conference on May 25- 26, 2006.

- Seven (7) candidates graduated from Class I School on May 19, 2006.

- Nine (9) candidates graduated from Class II School on May 24, 2006.

BELMAR FIRST AID:

The Belmar First Aid Squad responded to 62 calls for service in the month of May 2006.

BELMAR FIRE DEPARTMENT:

The Belmar Fire Department responded to 16 emergency calls in May 2006.
