SUBJECT: April 2006 Monthly Highlights

Pursuant to NJSA 40A:14-118, the Chief of Police must at least monthly report the operation of the police force for the proceeding month to the appropriate authority. The below report is submitted concerning police operations during the month of April 2006. From a Department of Public Safety standpoint, I have also included sections concerning the first aid, fire department and Office of Emergency Management operations.

PRODUCTIVITY:

The Belmar Police Department responded to 1456 calls for service during the month of April 2006. Officers responded to and investigated 32 motor vehicle accidents; issued 7 Borough Ordinance Summonses; issued 177 Motor Vehicle Summonses; and 27 Arrests were made; 3 of which were for DWI.

CRIME INFORMATION:

During the month of April 2006 we had 5 assaults, all cleared; 1 burglary; 21 thefts, 3 cleared and 2 motor vehicle thefts, both cleared. During the month of April 2006 we had 25 adults and 2 juveniles arrested for various violations.

PERSONNEL ISSUES:

During the month of April 2006 there were 8 sick days used by Regular Officers; and 2 sick days used by Dispatchers. During the month of April 2006, we had two officers out for Workmen Compensation related injuries and treatment.

POLICE DEPARTMENT TRAINING:

During the month of April 2006, the following personnel attended the below listed schools/training sessions:

- Nicholas Walsifer attended 3 days of training on Police Bicycle Mechanics

- Chief Hill attended a 2 day training session for Accreditation Program Assessor

- Captain Palmisano attended a 3 day training session on Principals of Emergency Management

- Sgt. Patrick Magovern attended a 2 day Conference on MAGLOCLEN Major Crimes Information Sharing.

- Chief Hill and Captain Palmisano attended a Seminar on Terrorism Awareness for the New Jersey Law Enforcement Executive

- Lt. Andrew Huisman successfully completed the prestigious West Point Command & Leadership Course. This program is an intensive five month educational experience that is essential for career progression and management capabilities. It entailed one day a week of class, one day a week for study group, plus many personal hours of research and study in preparation for the various examinations and projects held during throughout the course.

BELMAR FIRST AID:

The Belmar First Aid Squad responded to 40 calls for service in the month of April 2006.

BELMAR FIRE DEPARTMENT:

The Belmar Fire Department responded to 20 emergency calls in April 2006.

OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT:

During the month of April 2006 we continued to train personnel in various disciplines regarding OEM operations. The emergency plans are being reviewed for accuracy and capabilities. As you are aware, CERT training has been initiated under Project Manager Fran Hines.
