Fire Finder Program
During an emergency, especially a fire, there is very little time to hesitate. Children and the elderly are at the greatest risk, especially at night and while they are sleeping. They are very likely to become easily confused and frightened causing them to hide or they just may be to young or old to escape on their own.
In 2003, the BELMAR FIRE DEPARTMENT along with the BELMAR BUREAU of FIRE PREVENTION instituted the “Fire Finder Program” with great success. Currently over 200 Borough residents are participating in this program. The “Fire Finder Program” allows the Fire Department and other Emergency Responders to know vital information such as total occupants; handicaps, pets and where your bedrooms are within your home. The Fire Department maintains a list of all Borough residents who participate in the program in our Main Dispatch Computer System. If a Fire occurs in your residence, the responding emergency personnel will receive this vital information in the event you cannot get out. This information remains strictly confidential and secured. This information is only accessed in the event of a Fire or Emergency within your residence.
In 2004, this program was greatly enhanced by the addition of MDT’s (Computers within the Fire Trucks). These computers allow the responding firefighters to instantaneously retrieve this information right at their figure tips.
Of course participation in this program is on a voluntary basis. We cannot stress enough how important and vital this information would be to assist you and your loved ones in the tragic event of a fire or emergency. We are encouraging that you list all occupants within your residence as well as pets. Also, please list any handicap, which may interfere with a quick exit from you home in the event of a fire, i.e. hearing, walking, visually impaired, ect.
