Attending Court

If you have received a summons and you wish to plead not guilty and attend court, please call the court at 732-681-3700 to enter your not guilty plea. We will schedule a court date that is different than the onelisted on your summons. This is so that we may also schedule the issuing officer to be present on your court date.

If you have received a green sheet, you must appear in court on the date listed on the front of the sheet to enter your plea.

When you arrive at the Municipal Court, there is no need to check in if your name appears on the calendar posted in the lobby. You may have a seat in the courtroom. When the Judge enters the courtroom, he will call each name on the court calendar, and ask each person for a plea. After he is finished calling the calendar, he will take a recess. At this time, you should remain seated in the courtroom, and the Prosecutor will address each person who has entered a not guilty plea.

If the Judge finds you not guilty, there will be no fine to pay. If you are found guilty, the Judge will assess a fine and court costs. Please be sure that all cell phones and pagers are turned off before entering the courtroom. There is no eating, drinking or talking allowed in the courtroom.
