Campaign Contribution Disclosure

Belmar has the most transparent local election campaign contribution regulations in the State. Pursuant to municipal ordinance adopted in 2006, candidates for local office are required to file reports with the Borough Clerk disclosing the names of every contributor to their campaigns, regardless of how small the contribution. (State law requires that candidates for local office disclose only those who contribute more than $300 in a campaign cycle). Belmar has also adopted one of the strictest pay-to-play laws in the State, which not only prohibits contributions from the Borough’s professionals, but effectively precludes local candidates from receiving contributions from “pass-through” sources, such as political action committees, state or county political parties, or election funds of candidates for offices outside of Belmar.
