Fit Walk Route planning

Belmar Recreation will be meeting interested persons on the boardwalk in front of the Belmar Fishing Club starting Monday March 15 at 11:00. The purpose will be to measure different routes with Belmar residents using a Rolatape. This will assist people in setting goals and distances for walks or jogging and helping them keep accurate times and distances to mark improvement.
Our goal is to get you moving in a positive direction towards better health. The walks can start in Belmar and go in any reasonable direction and distance. If you have specific needs please plan ahead and call Michael Campbell at 732-681 3700 dial 9 then 211.
Weather permitting we will meet every weekday starting March 15 thru March 25th 2010.

The Belmar Arts Council announces a Call for Art! for it’s 6th Annual Jersey Shore Juried Art Show. Art Intake is Friday, March 26 from 5-8pm and Saturday, March 27 from 10a-1pm. Entry fee is $15 per piece (2-piece max) for BAC members and $25 per piece for non-members. Submissions must be framed and wired for hanging, as appropriate. On Friday, February 26, at 7:00 p.m., weather permitting, Ira Wallace and Sandy Cook of the Belmar Arts Council will be hosting the first film in their Independent Film Series, “Like Water for Chocolate.” An interactive discussion will take place following the film. Civil War History Presentation

The Belmar Public Library Presents the Scheier Brothers – Civil War History in Character. Robert Silverman and Diana Newman are experienced Civil War living historians, certified by the National Civil War Artillery Association. They have researched aspects of Civil War history, participated in reenactments and living history events in eight states and throughout New Jersey Schools and Libraries.
This program will be held at the downstairs media room in the Library, located at 517 10th Avenue, on March 10, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
All ages are welcome to attend.

The Easter Egg Hunt will be held on March 27th at 11 am Sharp.
Ages 1-3 will meet at the 6th ave beach
Ages 4-5 7th ave beach (north)

Ages 8-9 8th ave beach.
Please don’t be late as the Easter Egg Hunt will start on time and only lasts a few short minutes before all the eggs are found. DON’T BE LATE

Elaine Christy. A winner of the American Harp Society National Harp Competition, Ms. Christy has
performed at the World Harp
Congress in Seattle/Tacoma in 1999 and Geneva, Switzerland in 2002.
A member of the Richardson
Chamber Players at Princeton
University, she has also performed with the Princeton Symphony
Orchestra and has appeared with the CBS Orchestra on The Late Show with David Letterman.

Brazilian-born bass-baritone Brace
Negron is equally at home in the opera house and on the concert stage. He has sung the title role in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, and the role of the Bonze in Puccini’s Madame Butterfly.
Mr. Negron’s voice has been hailed for its great beauty and expressive powers. He has appeared at Lincoln Center and the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland, and has performed with New Jersey Opera
Theater, Des Moines Metro Opera and Opera North.
He will be joined on this program by his friend Siri Howard. Ms. Howard has
appeared with the Opera Festival of New Jersey, and sung in the 25th Anniversary Production of Sondheim’s A Little Night Music with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Lovers of great singing should be sure to attend this very special event.

This is a full-size swing band, with five saxes, four trumpets,
two trombones, piano, guitar, bass
and drums.
Featured is vocalist Cheryl Parker,
a master interpreter of jazz,
blues and big band music. She has
appeared at Lincoln Center and
Carnegie Hall, as well as the Red Bank Jazz and Blues Festival.

Arts Council announces events

The Belmar Arts Council [BAC] is gearing up for another successful year, and has announced a wide variety of events for the public to enjoy during the first month of 2010.
Unless noted otherwise, all events will take place at the Belmar Arts Council headquarters, 608 River Road, in Belmar.
• To help residents keep track of the BAC’s upcoming events, 2010 calendars are now in stock at the arts council headquarters. Calendars are $10 and are in limited supply.
• Drawing and Beyond: New Session Forming, will take place every Thursday throughout the duration of the month. Contact Lizzie at 732-929-9732 for more information regarding the event.
• The BAC has recently received a grant from the Belmar Tourism Committee to begin the long-awaited Belmar Mural Project. Currently a database of BAC muralists is being put together.
Any muralist interested in taking part in the project should send a resume, samples of work, and any other information to Brenda at Brenda@belmararts.org.
• Children’s painting classes will be taking place every Wednesday throughout February from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The cost for the program is $125 and painting supplies will be provided. To register, contact the BAC at 732-749-3360.
• The BAC will be continuing their popular monthly movie nights this year as well. A science fiction movie will be shown on Jan. 28.
All movies are free and begin at 7 p.m.

Belmar will be hosting the first annual Belmar’s Celtic Chase, a one mile race, fun run, and walk on the beach, on March 6, 2010 to kick off the St. Patrick’s Day Parade weekend festivities. Organized in conjunction with Jersey Shore Running Club, the race starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Taylor Pavilion. The entry fee for adults is $15.00 before March 1, $17 March 1-5 and $20 if registering on race day. The kid’s fee, which applies to children 12 and under, is $10 before March 1 and $15 if paid on race day. To pick-up pre-race packets and register, visit Jake’s Crab Shack on Ocean Avenue on March 5 from 5-7 p.m. There will be awards for the Top 10 Males and Females, a Grand Prize for the overall winner, and random prize drawings. Racers and their supporters are invited to the race Post Party, starting at noon.
