Amenities
Belmar’s beaches stretch for more than a mile, and are among the finest and most popular along New Jersey’s entire coast. Belmar strives to offer the healthiest beach environment for our residents and visitors. Our beach staff cleans and grooms the beaches every evening, and we strictly enforce restrictions that prohibit smoking on the beaches and boardwalk, except in several small designated smoking areas near the boardwalk.
Belmar’s beaches are especially fun for children. In addition to a series of colorful and fun beach playgrounds every few blocks, several of our beaches are devoted to activities like boogie boarding, kayaking and surfing. We even offer a surf camp at 3rd Avenue Beach, where kids of all ages can take surfing lessons. For older beachgoers who prefer dry land activities, several of our beaches are equipped with poles for volleyball nets. And even if you don’t have your own equipment, it’s usually easy to join a game.
Belmar prides itself on the accessibility of our beaches. Whether you’re just pushing a stroller or you have friend or family member with special needs, please take a moment to read about the facilities and services Belmar offers to make getting on the beach easy.
For the environmentally minded, Belmar offers a natural beach, where colorful educational signs will describe the various types of plant life and birds nearby. If you look carefully in the sand, you may even find a prehistoric shark tooth. And if you enjoy history, be sure to stop by the educational display on the boardwalk near 9th Avenue, which will point you to the wreck of the SS Malta, which foundered off 9th Avenue during a storm on November 24, 1885. The stern post of the ship can still be seen above the surface offshore, and the foremast of the ship is located on land nearby.
If you’d rather just sit and enjoy the beach, there is a concession at 10th Avenue where you can rent umbrellas and beach chairs. For a map showing the locations of these various beaches and activities, click here.
Our boardwalk, with its recycled plastic lumber surface, is a wonderful place to walk, jog, people-watch or just relax and enjoy the Ocean views. Well-maintained restrooms are located every few blocks. We are constantly making improvements to our facilities and beautifying our boardwalk and dunes.
