All work has been completed at the skatepark and the final inspection has been done. The skatepark will open on Saturday June 13th.
The Borough’s DPW staff has worked feverishly to get Belmar’s new skate park ready to open. Workers from the American Ramp Company, the successful bidder on the $71,000 modular-ramp park, finished assembling the ramp system last week. The new equipment includes a half-pipe ramp at one end of the park, a quarter-pipe ramp at the other, and a pyramid with euro gap and grind rail in the center.
The DPW staff has raised the height of the fence surrounding the park to 8′ feet, a requirement of the Borough’s joint insurance fund. This effort was delayed due to the bad weather. All work has been completed and final inspections are done.

DPW employees prepare to weld pipe extensions to raise the height of the fence around the skate park to 8 feet. Pictured are DPW employees Rob Page, Bill Musto and Nino Rosa.
The new skate park is the fruit of a 3-year fundraising effort led by former Councilman William Merkler. In addition to generous donations from a number of Belmar residents and local businesses, numerous community fundraisers were held over the years, and the proceeds of the 2007 Mayor’s Ball were also contributed to the cause. In addition to Mr. Merkler and the Department of Public Works, special thanks go to Bob Losito, who is the owner of Proskateboard Shop, at 1108 Main Street in Belmar, who provided invaluable assistance during the design phase of the effort, and to Borough Administrator Robbin Kirk, who has spent countless hours over the past several years handling the financial, bidding and insurance issues related to the project.
